Bal Rashmi is running an Education & Child Development Programme for 1193 children in Rajasthan India. The programme covers 717 families of 34 villages and lays a lot of emphasis on children's formal education. It strongly believes that every child of school going age must attend school. The children who are above the age of starting schooling should also be pursued for studies. In case of failure of such children to attend school, they should receive some non-formal education and vocational training as and when possible. With this aim, the programme is undertaken and some of the achievements in the field of children's education have been as follows:
1. A large number of children have become literate, who perhaps would never have attended school if they were not given support. They can read and write well. This is the first generation of Sans, Kanjar, Bagarias and Banjaras receiving education.
2. The drop-out rate among girls is still high, but even then so many girls have become literate, have better understanding, awareness and have developed better personality then their mothers and illiterate sisters.
3. Due to the programme influence and persuasion of the Bal Rashmi teachers and workers motivating the parents they developed interest in studies, which led to reduced dropout from schools because of the environment created for education in the villages.
4. In many villages now children themselves have become interested in studies and attend school regularly, where as the teacher had to initially collect them from each home previously. In many cases the teacher used to take children to school and bring them back to ensure that they attended school.
